In Guyana, energy efficiency is a major concern because of the reported high levels of energy consumed at the household, community and national levels. This quantitative study explores energy efficiency (electrical) and its impact on residential homes within the Campbellville community. It seeks to answer whether energy efficiency exists within the Campbellville community; how it is measured; the factors that contribute to energy efficiency; and the impact of current government policies/initiatives on energy efficiency on residential households in this community. In doing so, it highlights the importance of energy efficiency and the barriers to energy efficiency within the Campbellville community. Using random sampling technique, a total of thirty (30) households were selected to represent the Campbellville community. Applying the survey research, questionnaires outlining specific questions on energy efficiency such as household energy consumption, electrical appliances used, and the frequency of their usage were used to collect data for the study which were analysed using cross tabulation. It is hoped that the findings of this study benefit the residents of this community by highlighting the importance of energy efficiency. Further, it is envisaged that this study’s results will persuade the Government of Guyana to amend, formulate and implement regulations and policies on energy efficiency aimed at reducing energy inefficiency in this and other communities in Guyana.
