Persons living with disabilities have a right to reasonable accommodations in public institutions, especially educational institutions. This research sets out to show the need for accommodations to be made for people living with mobile disabilities; to determine the type of accommodations needed for these persons in schools; to assess whether these accommodations are necessary at the St. Maarten Academy and The University of St. Maarten, the two institutions where the study will be carried out; and to determine whether these institutions have made accommodations for persons with mobile disabilities. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection will be used to achieve these objectives. The quantitative method will be executed in the form of a questionnaire survey that will be distributed to 100 persons at each institution, and qualitative data will be captured through facility inspections at these institutions. Diagrams will be used to indicate where accommodations are present on site, and survey findings will be discussed using graphs and the narrative format. This research can help these and similar institutions to better understand accommodation needs for persons with mobile disabilities and may influence policy decisions regarding accommodations for such persons.
